I. Statement

The Central Africa's Rights & AIDS (CARA) Society truly believes that discrimination is dangerous, damaging and wastes talent. For this reason, CARA Society is actively opposed to all forms of discrimination on the grounds of:

Age, Appearance, Caring Responsibilities, Caste, Class, Gender, HIV Status, Marital Status, Nationality, Political Beliefs, Religion, Immigration Status, Race/Ethnicity, Sexuality, Long term Illness, Unrelated Criminal Conviction, Physical or Mental Ability, Trade Union Activity, etc.

As our organisation aims for a just society in which everyone from our community can live free with an equal chance to work without any fear of harassment, violence and abuse, CARA Society shall work with both governmental and other non-governmental organisations to achieve an equality of opportunities. Our society shall work together with partners and other agencies in order to build a spirit of co-operation throughout the UK and the world to create an atmosphere free from prejudice, ill feeling or resentment. We shall work with everybody to ensure that everyone in the community has a stake in what CARA Society does – difference.

II. Service Delivery

The Society is committed to reviewing its Equal Opportunities Policy, which shall be displayed in our office, regularly. CARA Society plans to make this policy available in Braille, large print, on audio cassette and as a factsheet in a number of international and African languages, including:

II. 1. COMMITMENT TO DELIVERING ACCESSIBLE SERVICES

Although some groups have received fair treatment and equality services while the basic needs of others have been denied, CARA Society is committed to attaining excellence in the delivery of its services that shall be accessible to everyone in the community – regardless of race, age, class, sex, sexuality, disability and religion. As an employer employing trustees, unpaid and, some times in the near future, paid staff, CARA Society shall work to rid our community of prejudice, ensuring that all our staff are treated with dignity they deserve and with respect for their unique contributions.

CARA Society shall introduce measures to combat any direct or indirect discrimination in our employment practice and in the delivery of our services. We shall always ensure that our Management Committee is representative of the target community. If anyone in the community feels that the society is not meeting the above aims, please contact a member of staff or ask for a copy of our complaints procedure.
