How to Get Rid of Armpit Smell Using a Home Remedy

Armpit odor can be embarrassing and unpleasant not just to yourself, but also to others. Smelly armpits are caused by an accumulation of bacteria on the skin. Bacteria thrive in warm, moist places, making your armpits a particularly good environment for them. According to the Home Remedies For You website, antiperspirants can clog pores, which leads to trapped sweat and increased odor. There are many remedies you can use to combat armpit smell right from your home.

Instructions:

  • 1. Shower or bathe regularly to keep your body clean. Shower with antibacterial soap as much as needed in the summer when you tend to sweat more, and shower after working up a sweat in the gym. Apply Epsom salt or rosewater to your bath if you prefer soaking in the tub.
  • 2. Avoid wearing the same clothes twice because body odor lingers on clothes. Wear cotton shirts in summer because they soak up sweat, and avoid wearing sleeveless shirts that make armpit odor more prominent.
  • 3. Drink a cup of sage tea daily. According to the Natural Home Remedies website, sage tea reduces body odor and reduces sweat gland activity.
  • 4. Wet a cotton ball with white vinegar, and wipe your underarms with it. Allow the vinegar scent to fade, and enjoy being odor-free the entire day. Using vinegar reduces your skin's pH, helping control armpit odor.
  • 5. Mix 1 oz. water with two drops of tea tree oil, and poor the mixture in a spray bottle. Use this instead of over-the-counter deodorant. Tea tree oil prevents armpit odor because it's an antibacterial herb.
  • 6. Apply baby powder or talc as another possible deodorant replacement that also helps keep the armpits dry.

Get Rid of Sweaty Armpits: A Home Remedy

Suffering from excessive armpit sweat can be embarrassing. You may find yourself constantly afraid to lift your arms for fear of wet stains on your clothes. If you do suffer from this problem, there are many home remedies. Once you get your sweaty armpits under control, you will find yourself feeling more confident and secure in your daily activities.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Believe it or not, apple cider vinegar will help. Before you go to bed, rub it on your armpits. Leave it on all night. The vinegar will saturate your armpit's sweat pores and cause a drying effect. It will also help neutralize odor-causing bacteria. The armpits will absorb the vinegar all night, which will help keep them from sweating the next day. In the morning, wash you armpits with soap and water and apply your deodorant. If you do not have apple cider vinegar, use any type of malt vinegar.

Key Lime Juice
One of the quickest home remedies is using key lime juice. Cut a key lime in half. Rub one half under each armpit. Let it air dry and then apply your deodorant as usual. If you have razor burn or any type of cuts under your arms, this is not recommended. The lime juice can irritate or cause stinging to cuts under your arms. Also, be sure to let the lime juice dry completely because it will stain your clothes. You can also rub the limes on before you go to bed, wash your arms with soap and water in the morning and apply deodorant. By doing it at night instead of in the morning, you will not have a strong lime smell following you around all day.

Baking Soda
Baking soda works by soaking up the excess sweat in your armpits. It is also a great odor and moisture absorber. Apply it to your underarms. It will work best when applied to shaved, dry armpits.

Keep it Short
One of the easiest ways to keep your armpits dry is by having little to no underarm hair. Try waxing, shaving or cutting your armpit hair. This may be easier for women then men, but it will certainly help keep you dry. If you are a man and do not feel comfortable shaving under your arms, try cutting the armpit hair as short as you can. In some cases the sweating can be so bad that you may need to seek a medical prescription.
